Online Counselling & Supervision

Online Counselling

What is Online Therapy?

Online counselling is an increasingly popular option for individuals and couples seeking support and where lifestyle or circumstances make it difficult to attend the more traditional face-to-face sessions. Often referred to as “e-therapy”, online counselling is now considered part of the overall spectrum of ways to access support - although it does not suit everyone.

Advantages of Online Therapy…

  • Attending from the comfort of your own home can make it more accessible and convenient for those with busy lifestyles or mobility constraints.
  • More flexibility on appointment times, and sessions can fit around normal working hours.
  • Often more affordable - online therapy does not carry the same costs as meeting in a therapists room or clinic.
  • Access from anywhere in the world - sessions don’t need to stop if you are working away or move house.
  • Often provides a solution to the frequently long waiting lists for face-to-face sessions.
  • Video calling therapy has the benefit of being able to see and hear your therapist - something that people often miss with other forms of e-therapy
  • It can overcome feelings of stigma that you might have around seeking counselling support.
  • Some people find it easier to speak freely and to express themselves more openly than in more traditional face-to-face therapy.

However, online counselling is not suited to everyone and there are limitations. For example, for those who are visually impaired, suffering an enduring mental illness, or are feeling suicidal.

The Practicalities

You will need:

Access to a device with good internet connection and a webcam.

Secure and uninterrupted space either at home or elsewhere.

Online Therapeutic Supervision

I am fully trained in the provision of Online Therapeutic Supervision and my supervisory framework is rooted in the relationship between supervisor and supervisee.

For structure and process, I am influenced by the Inskipp & Proctor and Shohet & Hawkins models of supervision which attend to the Normative (ethical, legal and 'norms'), Formative (educational and experiential) and Restorative (supportive and reflective) aspects of our counselling profession. I supervise both F2F and online client work.
